My Story
Forty years in locker rooms taught me what therapy school never does.
I started as a basketball coach. Twenty-something years old, standing in front of teenagers and telling them how to move. What I was really learning — though I couldn't name it then — was how to read a person. Not their words. Their patterns. The way a player's confidence drained in the fourth quarter told me everything about what they said to themselves when they were alone.
Then came golf. And the game broke me open.
The golf course is unlike any other diagnostic tool I've ever found. There's nowhere to hide on a golf course. Your psychology writes itself in real time, in front of you, in every swing. How you respond to a bad shot tells me who you are inside your business. How you talk to yourself between holes tells me how you handle a hard quarter.
How you grip a 7-iron under stress is how you grip a partnership decision. How you talk to yourself after a bad hole is how you talk to yourself after a hard quarter. The course doesn't lie.
Over the last 40 years, I've worked with more than 1,500 athletes and 5,000 entrepreneurs. What I found — and this took me decades to understand — is that they all have the same problem. Not the same circumstances. The same problem. There is something they are not saying out loud. Something they have been carrying. And the moment someone creates the space for them to say it — really say it, without being fixed or analyzed or redirected — something releases. And then everything moves.
I am not a therapist. I am not a life coach in the Instagram sense. I am a man who has sat with more human beings in crisis than most people will ever meet — and I have never once found the answer in a framework.
But none of that is why people stay. They stay because in one conversation, I name the thing they've been circling for years. Not because I'm smarter than them. Because I love them enough not to let them keep lying to themselves.
"I entered my session feeling stuck, depressed, and completely unmotivated. Bob magically gave me a whole new way of unearthing deeper feelings and insights I hadn't considered. He restored my motivation and enthusiasm for moving towards the work I truly love."
